THE STORY

A long long time ago...

in a city not all that far away TantrumCon got its start as a small Community Board Game Day. A group of friends with a YouTube channel called “Tantrum House” had already successfully funded a board game on Kickstarter, they had started a podcast, and they had traveled to several other big board game conventions.

So after their monthly gaming meetup started to out grow its meeting location they decided it was time to try something new. With a full day of gaming at the Greenville library, a food truck, and a board game library provided by our FLGS all lined up, the only thing left to do was a little advertising.

Before anybody could shoot him down Will had already designed a logo and printed a banner and TantrumCon was born! They had no idea how many people would show up for their little event. And they definitely had no idea that they’d end up teaming up with some experienced convention hosts afterwards and decide to make it an annual experience!

From there it was upward and onward! Each year would bring new faces, bigger venues, and more excitement. Each year would also bring that same hilarious question “what are you gonna do at TantrumCon?? Flip tables?” It didn’t take but a handful of people asking the same question before it was decided that, in fact, yes! There would be table flipping at TantrumCon. There would also be meals that everyone shared together while playing games and competing to win (Tournameals). There would be tons and TONS of giveaways! There would be funny shows, magic, trivia contests, and as many family-friendly and fun events as we could imagine! 

TantrumCon strives to be a different kind of convention. It’s not about “the new hotness” (although there are always  plenty of new releases at the event). It’s not about seeing all the board game celebrities (but there are bunches of media folk, designers, artists, and publishers who travel from far and wide to drop in each year). It’s not even about board games (even though there’s a massive library, tons of learn-to-plays, tournaments, special gaming events, and more). TantrumCon is about fun! It’s about gathering around the table with friends—old and new! It’s about hanging out late into the night. Laughing. Winning. Playing. And doing it over and over again for 4 straight days! It's a magical experience, really.

To be honest we have no idea where this is all headed! But as long as we’re loving it, and doing it together, there’s kinda no limit to what TantrumCon could become in the future. Will you join us on this wild little ride?
